Maintenance and care
Simple and efficient
All our Marmoleum products have a Topshield finish which makes cleaning and maintenance easy. Dust wiping is a quick and easy way to keep your floor dust-free.

Monel
Regular use of Forbo Monel creates a good protection through a film, which inhibits the adhesion of dirt and is removed during the next maintenance action. In this way the original appearance of the floor is retained.
Daily cleaning
Remove dust and loose dirt regularly with a dust wiper
Remove stains with Monel and a slightly damp mop
Periodical cleaning
Remove loose dust and dirt with a dust wiper
Clean the floor using Monel and a mop (0.25 l Monel / 10 l water)
Allow floor to dry
Occasional maintenance
Although domestically probably not relevant, intensive use can lead to excess wear of your floor.
The original look can be restored as follows:

Scrub the floor using Monel and a scrub brush (0.25 l Monel / 10 l water)

Remove dirty water with wiper and mop or water vac

Now mop with clean water and allow to dry

Apply Monel film with the mop (0.25 l Monel / 5 l water).

Cleaner and Polish
Our cleaner and polish products are ideal for those who prefer a satin sheen. The cleaner is a neutral PH detergent which can be regularly used to clean the floor, while the polish is applied to achieve a satin sheen. Should older floors start to look dirty, they can be renovated and a new coat of polish applied.

Renovation:

Apply a 5% solution of Forbo Cleaner (0.25l cleaner to 5l water)

Allow to soak for 10 minutes

Scrub with a scrubbing brush or nylon pad

Rinse with clean water and mop

Allow floor to dry

Apply Forbo Polish with applicator (0.25l polish to 0.25l cold water)

Allow floor to dry

Novilon / Novilux

Forbo Novilon and Novilux are protected by the strong protective finish of Diamond Seal and Diamond Seal XS. This makes cleaning and maintenance very simple indeed. All products can be cleaned with the same simple method:
In normal use sweep or vacuum the floor to remove loose dirt and grit. Wash regularly afterwards with Forbo Monel and water (50 ml/10 l water) to remove spots and clean the floor.
After very intense use or a longer period of time you can also apply Monel film using Forbo Monel solution (250 ml/5 l water) and mop. Please allow floor to dry.
This method greatly reduces effort and time spent on keeping your floor in shape

Flotex

With an incredible 70 million nylon upright fibres per square metre, Flotex provides no hiding place for spills and stains. Flotex floor coverings are 100% waterproof so it cleans like a vinyl.

Cleaning
When vacuuming set the brush adjustment to the lowest setting, push forward at normal speed and pull back at half speed. This gives the brush time to sweep out any fluff etc that may have been pushed between the fibres.

Wet Cleaning
Flotex benefits from the occasional wet clean. This can be carried out with a machine such as VAX or hot-water extraction machine.
The detergent supplied with these machines is suitable for use on Flotex. However, it should only be used in a very weak solution.
Mopping or wiping is not recommended as this only cleans the tips of the piles.

Dealing with spillages
Wet Spillages
Includes fatty foods, cooking oil, water-based drinks, non-fatty sauces, oil, petrol, parafin.
If possible, remove the spillage as soon as it occurs.
If the spillage has dried, pour on hot water and allow to soak for five to ten minutes before attempting to remove it.
For small areas use the scrape, scrub, rinse routine detailed below, using a weak detergent solution or suitable carpet cleaner (one teaspoon detergent to five litres of water).

Scrape
Scrape off as much of the spillage as possible

Scrub
Pour a liberal amount of hot water into the area.
Add a small amount of detergent, then scrub using a stiff brush and scrape the dirty solution into an absorbent cloth.

Rinse
Rinse thoroughly with clean water. Scrape the excess water into an absorbent cloth and leave the area to dry.
