Installation of Project Vinyl sheet

Sub floor preparation
The installation of a resilient Forbo floor starts with the sub floor, which must be dry, rigid and smooth. Forbo Europlan is a perfect levelling screed. Forbo QuickFit is a fast alternative sub floor system, especially in situations where sound reduction is required.
Forbo also offers a range of moisture barrier products and primers, to prepare the adhesion of levelling screed.

Installation preparation
Rooms, materials and sub floors must have a minimal temperature of 17 degrees Celsius (63 degrees Fahrenheit). Allow all materials to acclimatise for at least one night before installation. Forbo offers specially designed installation tools for transportation and unrolling, such as the Forbocar or the Forbo Carryset.
For more information on our installation tools, please click ont he link at the bottom of the page.

Adhering
A perfectly installed floor requires perfect adhesion. Within the Forbo Eurostar/Eurosafe range, high quality adhesives for every type and situation are available.
Follow the recommended open time (flash off time) from the adhesive supplier, thereafter fold the PVC sheet into the adhesive bed, rub the sheet carefully from centre to the edges in order to press the air out. If prescribed, roll the surface, first width wise, then lengthwise. Remove any excess adhesive.
After installation, make sure that the room is ventilated, in order to allow the adhesive to dry. Preferably do not use or load a freshly installed floor until the adhesive has set thoroughly, which in normal conditions takes about two days.

Welding
Welding is done for decorative and/or hygienic reasons. After the adhesive has set sufficiently, which usually takes a day, the floor can be welded using Forbo’s patented welding system. colour matched welding strip is available for all our project vinyl products.

Finishing
For a professional end result, Forbo can provide a complete service offering profiled skirting, stairnosings and transition profiles in various materials to help achieve perfect end results.

Installation of Allura Luxury Vinyl Tiles

General Advice

The installation of Allura should be carried out in accordance with BS8203 code of practice for the installation of resilient floor coverings. As with all resilient floor coverings, bases should be clean, smooth, sound and permanently dry.

For standard installations Eurocol ‘543 Eurosafe Deco’ adhesive is recommended, however, if a low emission EC1 adhesive is required, Eurocol ‘640 Eurostar Special’ may be used.

It is important to note that areas of installation liable to be subjected to abnormal temperature variation in use, for example, premises with glazed window fronts, glazed patio doors, conservatories etc. must be adhered with Eurocol ‘Euromix PU’ which is a two part rigid set polyurethane adhesive. Areas at risk from water spillage should also be adhered using the aforementioned adhesive.

Apply the adhesive with either a 1.5 x 5mm ‘V’ notched trowel or the European ‘A2’ trowel (1.8 x 1.2 x 1.65 mm).

Points to note

Most Allura designs are non directional; however the following installation recommendations are given:
• Abstract Linea tiles are recommended to be laid chequerboard.
• Stone tiles 50 x 50 cm may be laid either in bond or brick pattern with the exception of Stone Shades which should be laid in bond only.
• Stone planks 60 x 37.5cm are recommended to be laid brick pattern.
• Weave and woven designs are directional and should be laid in the same direction (broadloom).
• Although Metal Brush designs are non directinal for best effect they should be laid in the smae direction.
• Tiles and planks do not require shuffling prior to installation, but dry laying will identify best use of design. Please note that abstract stripe designs do not have a pattern match.
• Patterns on embossed tiles do not match exactly. This is intentional and gives the floor a more realistic appearance. Like the natural material, some designs will vary in tone and colour. This is intentional and gives the floor a more authentic appearance.
• Tiles that require directional installation will have installation instructions included in the cartons. Additional copies may be obtained from Customer Services (0800 0935 258)
• Like the natural material, many designs will vary in tone and colour. This is intentional and gives the floor a more authentic appearance.

• As with all Forbo floor coverings, Allura can be used in conjunction with under-floor heating systems.

• Only spread sufficient adhesive that can be covered within the specified open time.

Allura tiles should be rolled with a 68 kg roller as soon as possible after laying and within the open time of the adhesive – the open time of the adhesive will depend on site conditions and porosity of the base.

Always clean away excess adhesive before it is allowed to dry.

Allura should be protected from heavy traffic for 24 hours and must not be washed for 48 hours.

Installation of Loose Lay Tiles

Preparing the Sub floor
The quality of the finished installation will depend on the quality of the sub floor. Irregularities in the subfloor will be apparent in the finished flooring. All subfloors should be smooth, sound clean and dry in accordance with BS8203.

New Concrete sub floors
New concrete sub floors should be constructed over a moisture barrier and be completely dry and cured so that moisture cannot penetrate and damage the vinyl tile. A moisture test is recommended.

Existing Concrete floors
Existing Concrete floors should be structurally sound, dry, smooth and clean. All irregularities should be patched or leveled with a smoothing compound. Note: Do not install over sandy, soft surfaces or over areas that may develop hydrostatic pressure.

Raised floors
Raised floors should be smooth and clean. All irregularities should be leveled. Old resilient flooring
a. should be sound and bonded tightly to the sub floor.
b. should have loose or broken areas removed and replaced with sound material or leveled with a good quality smoothing compound.
c. should be thoroughly sanded to remove old wax, resin sealer and dirt and then thoroughly cleaned.
Note: If the old resilient flooring has been installed on a concrete slab that is in direct contact with the ground, remove the old flooring.

Timber Subfloors
Timber subfloors should be prepared in the same manner and to the same standard as for all other resilient finishes.
For a well finished floor
1. Make sure all sub floors are in satisfactory condition.
2. Install materials under proper site conditions.
3. Where applicable, use only Forbo approved adhesive.

FLEX Design tiles can be installed without adhesive on rough subfloors. For smooth subfloors a tackifier should be used. Forbo recommends Forbo Eurocol 546 Eurofix Multi.
