Installation Instructions for Flotex Flocked Flooring

Adoption of best practise in relation to installation techniques including subfloor preparation is essential to ensure the optimum performance and life expectancy of the floorcovering.

Subfloor preparation
The quality of the finished installation will depend on the quality of the subfloor. All subfloors must be sound, smooth, clean and permanently dry in accordance with BS 8203:2001+A1:2009.
Irregularities in the subfloor will be apparent in the finished floorcovering.

Adhesive

The recommended adhesive for use with Flotex sheet products is 540 Eurosafe Special. Flotex tiles installed in general traffic areas may be adhered using 542 Eurofix Tack Plus tackifier adhesive to allow for ease of removal or replacement if necessary. In heavy traffic areas, areas subject to wheeled traffic and castor chairs and areas where heavy point loading occurs, Flotex tiles should be fully adhered using 540 Eurosafe Special.

Batch Matching
As with any floorcovering use of different production batches will always result in visible shade differences. It is essential that different batches are not mixed in the same area. When ordering sheet or tiles, each floor area must be specified from the same batch. The batch number is clearly marked on the reverse of sheet or tile products and must be checked before commencement of installation.

Conditioning
Both rolls and tiles must be acclimatised for 24 hours prior to installation at a temperature of between 18 and 27 C. Flotex rolls should be stored in an upright position and tiles should be laid flat.

Installation - Fitting
Installation must be carried out in accordance with the requirements of BS 8203 or any subsequent revision, and the guidelines contained in the Contract Flooring Association “Guide to Contract Flooring” manual.

Additional product specific installation advice is available from Forbo Flooring UK Limited and must be followed. For Flotex sheet products, install sheets with factory edges butt jointed and running in the same direction, ensuring arrows on reverse pointing towards the main light source, NEVER AWAY. To prevent potential problems of deviation of wheeled traffic travelling across the dense pile of Flotex, it is strongly recommended that the floorcovering is laid lengthways in the main direction of traffic. Flotex tiles must be laid butt jointed, fitted tightly and cut accurately at perimeters.

Pile Direction
There is an arrow indicating pile direction on the reverse of every sheet and tile product. For carpet tiles, the preference of the specifier as to “broadloom”, “tessellated” or other visual effects must be confirmed before tiles are installed.

N.B. Options for the direction of tile installation will vary between product ranges. It is advisable to check with Forbo Flooring prior to installation.
