Reducing our environmental footprint

Forbo uses Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) as the independent methodology of measuring our impact on the environment. Our target is:

"To continuously minimise the environmental impact
of Forbo Flooring Systems as measured by the weighted
categories in our independently verified Life Cycle
Assessment measurement system by 25% before the
end of 2015 (cf2009)."

The LCA is calculated for 1m2 installed floor covering from cradle to installation. We base our LCA calculation on the weighted mass of all the products we produce and also include the energy consumption of all our offices and warehouse worldwide. The LCA index opposite shows that we have continued to improve our performance for the fourth straight year, due to the work that has been undertaken in all our production facilities.

European Resilient Flooring Manufacturers Institute
The European Resilient Flooring Manufacturers Institute (ERFMI) was formed to represent the resilient flooring industry and to ensure the maintenance of high ethical standards within the industry.

To overcome the confusion of country-specific declarations on the environmental impact of products, the ERFMI has created an EU-wide Life Cycle Assessment of a broad range of flooring types and specifications based on the data provided by its members .The resulting Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) can then be tailored by the end user or specifier to meet their exact needs.

To find out more about ERFMI or to create your own EPD please visit the ERFMI website
